June 15th

Course maintenance demonstration given to Glen Orchard students yesterday

Today it looks like a fantastic day with Environment Canada calling for it to be sunny, fog patches dissipating this morning with a high of 27. UV index 8 or very high. Tonight it will be clear and stay in double digits with a low of 13.

Golf carts ARE PERMITTED today.  Please use cart paths where provided and stay 50 feet back from greens.

This afternoon at 1 pm is the opening Ladies' Day shotgun. A reminder that tomorrow afternoon is the Ladies' Invitational with "Christmas in June" as the theme.

Side-to-side greens roller acquired for extra roll and smoothness this season

The greens are quickly recovering from last weeks aeration.  Yesterday's topdressing did a great job filling any of the remaining holes.  Green speed is 8.5 feet today and starting to climb with drier weather.  We just acquired a side-to-side roller that will help with extra ball roll and smoothness for this season.

Tees will be topdressed this morning to help get some sand in the holes from last week's aeration and help alleviate thatchy conditions.

Arena™ 50 WDG Insecticide will be sprayed around the greens this morning to impede development of the Annual bluegrass weevil. This is a pest we have a history of damage which is now back for this season. Arena has a wide window of application that lasts from May to September, Arena provides the longest and most consistent control of white grubs and other surface-feeding insects.

Tees topdressed today to fill in aeration holes

The maintenance crew spend a little time this week trimming back the undergrowth around the tee decks on 4 and 5.  This program will continue throughout the season with work on 6 scheduled in the coming weeks.  With the Audubon program many of these areas were left to grow.  As a result, these areas have been overrun with raspberries.  Over time we hope to try and establish fescue grasses in these areas for a cleaner, less invasive look.
