Rory Mcllroy leads US Open AFP PHOTO / Jim WATSON |
Happy Fathers' day! It could be a good day to sit back and watch history happen as Rory Mcllroy goes into 4th round of the U.S. open with a record breaking 54 hole 199 and a 8 stroke lead.
Today Environment Canada is calling for it to be sunny with a high of 24. UV index 9 or very high. Tonight a few clouds. Low 12.
Golf carts ARE PERMITTED today. Please keep carts on paths where provided and obey white traffic lines to stay back from green surrounds.
Green speed today is 9. Greens have recovered well from recent aeration 11 days ago and are playing fairly smooth. Extra sand placed on greens to fill in remaining holes and fertilizer to speed up recovery is a factor now slowing ball roll down slightly. Speeds should increase as we get closer to the 14 day mark as sand works in to turf canopy and fertilizer tapers off.
There is no significant greens maintenance to report for this week. Focus will be on overseeding and topdressing remaining thatchy fairways. This is part of a long term plan to eliminate excessive thatch build up and incorporate more stress tolerant grasses. A mix of Chewings fescue and Bentgrass is being overseeded into these extremely thatchy areas of the course. By completing this process with regular verticutting, aerating and topdressing we will not only improve the overall playability of the course but also reduce our need for water, fertilizer and pesticides.

Have a great round and fathers' day.
