July 30th

Rain held off for another great Pro's Day event yesterday
Today is a full mow day after yesterday's mow routine was postponed due to the early morning showers.

WEATHER CONDITIONS:
Yesterday's high reached 22 degrees for Pro's Day with the overnight low down to 14.  The 35mm of rain spread over the last 48 hours with the moderate temperatures will help aid further greens recovery form lingering winter damage and Poa thinning from recent heat wave. The radar looks pretty clear this morning as the day is expected to be a mix of sun and cloud with a moderate high of 23. There is 30 percent chance of showers early this morning with fog patches dissipating. Tonight, a few clouds with fog patches developing after midnight. Low 10.

GOLF CART USAGE:
Golf carts are available today for full use BUT due to the recent rain we received over last couple of days, we ask that you please use caution while driving throughout the course. Try and stay 'high and dry' and avoid any low lying wet areas.  Use cart paths where provided.

DRIVING RANGE CLOSURE:
The Driving Range remains open for PARTIAL USE ONLY while drying from recent rain.  We anticipate a FULL USE OPENING asap with a few more drying days.  The pumps at the range have caught up but it's still a little too soft for the ball picker.  For now we ask that you hit only from the stations that are set up, and only at the flagsticks set up (yardages are indicated on the permanent marker). The range will be closed during certain times to hand pick as needed, and for Junior Clinics. Thank you for your understanding during this wet season.

COURSE CONDITIONS:
Greens
Greens will be mowed and target rolled this morning.  Greens will remain a little below 10 today as greens dry from recent rainfall.
Tees, Collars, Fairways and Approaches
Will all be mowed this morning since yesterday had to postpone fairway, collar and approach mowing due to rain.
Rough
Start process of mowing the green surrounds a day behind schedule with what is remaining from yesterday's high and dry target areas.
Bunkers
Sand will be hard-raked this morning and any washouts will be touched up during the morning rounds.
Ground Under Repair - Treat all new sodded areas IN ROUGH as 'ground under repair'.
Course Etiquette - Please remember to repair ball marks and replace divots.  If carrying your golf bag and using the sand tubes, please use on FAIRWAYS and ROUGH ONLY.  Do not use sand tubes or bottles to fix tee divots!!!  It is different seed and it's the golf course maintenance staff responsibility to repair all tee divots on a periodic basis.  Using the sand and seed mix on tees will also deplete your available material for fixing fairway and rough divots prematurely!  Thanks for your cooperation!

TURF PLANT HEALTH PRODUCT APPLICATIONS:
This morning we are spraying the greens with Primo Maxx growth regulator to control excessive vertical growth along with some foliar nutrition products to maintain turf health.

In the photo above the area to the left has been treated with Primo Maxx.  As you can see from the photo the treated grass is MUCH thicker, stands straight, and looks much better. The non-treated grass is laying down and much thinner.  The treated area also yields less clippings and requires less mowing to save labour, machine hours and fuel.

TURF CULTURAL PRACTICES:
Isolated thin areas on greens will be mechanically dimple-seeded using a walk-behind unit borrowed from Oviinbyrd GC.  The holes will be overseeded with bentgrass and filled with our premium divot mix to fill any remaining voids from winter damage and thinning of Poa from the recent heat wave.  This unit will be gentle not to tear up any emerging seedings in areas, and provide a faster process to cover more area then the hand-dimple method.  We will repeat this process again in the next week or so while conditions are favourable for bentgrass establishment.

A mechanical walk-behind dimple seeder will be used today to overseed bentgrass into thin areas.
Have a great round!
