Course In Prime Condition For Peak Summer Period

A clear morning out on the course for mowing greens

It's the start of the last two weeks in July.  It's hard to believe the time is already here! It's the period when a lot of families are up to enjoy the cottage and utilize all the Club has to offer during the peak summer period.  Today is a perfect day to be out at the Club with sunny sky's with a high of 24 degrees.  There is zero percent chance of rain which is unbelievable this year!

The course is in prime condition and ready for the enjoyment of all members and guests.
Today the greens were cut and rolled after fixing some unrepaired ball marks.  The tees were mowed and the bunkers all raked. The rough around the green surrounds received their second mowing of the week to ensure consistency.

The crew is working hard to make our end of life bunkers as playable as possible.  A lot of hand raking with hard rakes has been done to loosen up the packed sand from all the rain.  Some extra sand has been topped up in many bunkers, and more new sand will be added next week.  More specifically, the left greenside bunker on No. 7 green and the first two fairway bunkers on No. 10.  Weeds around the edges are evident with the excess rainy conditions encouraging their growth.  This is a long process to hand-weed, so a herbicide treatment will be applied early next week around the edge of bunkers to eliminate them.

The course could still use a few more days of sunny weather to help dry up the course especially in the low lying areas to firm up the playing surfaces for more bounce and roll.  It would also help disperse some of the excess clippings that are lingering after all the damp weather.  However the greens are remaining firm and rolling great due to the drill and fill sand injection completed the last couple of years after Thanksgiving.

During this busy period, please remember to help keep the course in prime condition by fixing your ball marks and fixing your divots and following all the cart traffic direction indicators.

Leveling green side heads on collars for increased playability
Another attempt to increase play-ability has been to raise the low lying sprinklers around the greens.  The crew is working hard to take on this extra work and fit it in to the busy work schedule.  The goal is to get all the greenside sprinklers leveled before the end of this summer.

It's also an exciting weekend with the Open Championship taking place at Royal Liverpool.  It will be interesting to see whether Rory McIlroy can pull of his first British Open win and second major, whether Tiger will make his comeback, or what pants John Daly will wear if he makes the cut!

John Daly's pants a topic of conversation at this year's open

Have a great weekend!
