Full Harvest Moon |
We hardly needed our headlights this morning as we started our early morning on the course to clear sky's and a great view of the Harvest Moon that set to the west over the driving range. The Harvest Moon gets its name from agriculture in the days before electric lights, farmers depended on bright moonlight to extend the workday beyond sunset. It was the only way they could gather their ripening crops in time for market. This full moon is at its closest point to Earth which is why it is so big and bright. The Harvest Moon will appear biggest to the naked eye during and just after the moonrise around 7:18 p.m. this evening.
Today the full crew is back from the weekend to give the course a full mowing on all the short turf surfaces including greens, tees, fairways, collars and approaches. The rough will be cut around the green surrounds and the big rough unit will start to make it rounds starting on the first hole.
A reminder again of tomorrow's start to the greens aeration with non-disruptive 1/4" tines. It looks like Wednesday will rain, so we may continue the aeration on the back 9 tomorrow (and get the whole course completed) after the front 9 is cleaned up.
The bunkers were left unraked for today after getting a full rake yesterday, back to our alternate day schedule during the shoulder season.

Brooke Henderson wins individual title at World Amateur |
In Canadian golf news Canada was second at 27 under at the Women's World Golf Amateur in Japan this weekend, with 16-year-old Brooke Henderson winning the individual title at 19-under 269. An impressive season for Brooke this year: low amateur and 10th-place tie at the U.S. Women’s Open; victories at the PGA Women's Championship of Canada, the Canadian Women’s Tour event in Niagara Falls, the Porter Cup, the Ontario Women’s Amateur, the South Atlantic Ladies Amateur and the Scott Robertson Memorial Tournament; runner-up at the U.S. Women's Amateur; tie for 26th at the Kraft Nabisco Championship; tie for 45th at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic; tie for 46th and top amateur at the LPGA Canadian Pacific Women's Open.
Graham DeLaet missed his chances this weekend to move on to the finals at the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup finals at East Lake Golf Club. He needed to be in the top 30 to qualify but ended up in 37th place after his 11th place finish at the BMW Championship this weekend.
Enjoy your round and hope you get a chance to see the Harvest Moon rise this evening!
