Firming Up

A recent stretch of wet weather made the course a little soft. Over the past week, light winds and sunny conditions have resulted in the course starting to once again firm up. Unlike many new Muskoka golf courses, which are built to USGA standards, our course has a large amount of native soil. This soil ranges from sand near the lake, to blue clay farther inland. This results in some areas taking more time than others to really firm up to ideal playing conditions. This process is well on its way.

This morning on the course; tee blocks will be rotated, pins will be changed, greens will be mowed, greens will be rolled and the bunkers will be raked.

It is that time of year, again, where the course is going to be steadily busy for the next 2 months. This results in traffic injury on greens in the form of ball marks. Regardless if your approach shot is a high launch or a low frozen rope into the green, ball marks are left. The greens staff gets as many as they can before mowing their respective greens, but a ton of time can not be spent hunting down ball marks. If more time is spent looking for ball marks by the crew, this could result in the first group catching the greens mowers. Nobody wants to putt on uncut greens, so if everyone did their part and hunted down their ball marks, injury and work efficiency will remain normal.

Enjoy the great weather and have a great round!
