The long awaited time to work on reconstructing bunkers on the course has finally arrived! This fall as planned, the greenside bunkers on No. 4, 5, 16 and 18 are getting a make-over. The contractor D.G.R. Excavating (Don Robb and crew) started work on the 5th green bunkers on Monday morning. The irrigation was isolated and the sod and topsoil was stripped away from the area of construction. The rough grading of the bunkers is now underway following the plans from Carrick design.
The same process started on the 4th green bunkers today, in order to get a head start and get a couple of green sites ready for Doug Carrick to approve this Friday when he arrives on site to inspect the rough grade work. Next week, any irrigation adjustments will be made to the routing of the piping and sprinklers to provide optimum coverage and install the drainage and bunker boards.
Don Robb has worked with Doug Carrick shaping bunkers for over 20 years so he is no stranger to working with Stanley Thompson courses such as Oakdale, Summit and Kawartha just to name a few.
Today we finally started the fairway verticutting after waiting for the weather to clear after a couple of days of rain. The back 9 will be completed today and the front 9 hopefully tomorrow (Thursday). Tomorrow we will reverse the 9's and have everyone tee off the back 9 to avoid playing on freshly verticutted fairways.
The following short video shows the fairway verticutting process in motion. Thanks for your patience during this important procedure to remove excess thatch material.
