Aerification Following Men's Invitational Focuses On Stressed Locations For Reduced Disruption During Prime September Golf

Add caption
The Labour Day weekend and the Men's Invitational saw some great playing conditions with the fast and firm surfaces produced after the wall to wall sand topdressing on short turf areas completed the last week in August.

With those two prime events behind us, we now look to carry out some scheduled aeration on greens, tees, collars and approaches happening today on the front 9 and tomorrow on the back 9.

We are conscious about the disruption this may cause during this exceptional time of year to be out enjoying the course.  Therefore the greens are getting spot treated with the aerator to limit any unnecessary surface disruption at this time.  The core aerification using 3/8" tines will be limited to the collars around the greens, the approaches and the cleanup pass (or 4' width) around the perimeter of each green.  The tees will also be aerated.

This spot treatment method will allow for some needed recovery of the stressed areas predominantly in the cleanup cut of the green, and leave the majority of the greens surface untouched for continued playability.  No. 3 green was the green requiring the most recovery on the far right side of the green where 4 passes of the aerator was required.  The majority of the rest of the greens only needed two passes around them (one pass in the collar, and one pass just around the edge of the green).

Bentgrass will be overseeded into these areas to promote stronger, more stress tolerant grass into these areas going forward.  Thanks for your patience during this important process.

No. 3 green required a couple extra passes on the right to help recover stressed turf
There seems to be no end to the list of work that needs to get done out on the course.  My hat goes off to all the Greenstaff here at MLG&CC this season, that have worked hard and steady to deliver the exceptional conditions we've experienced all season long!
