July 20th
Congratulations goes out Cheri Grogan & Cathy Niblett winners of yesterday's Ladies Tennis Member Guest!
For Ladies Day today Environment Canada is calling for it to be sunny near noon then a mix of sun and cloud with 30 percent chance of showers late this afternoon. Risk of a thunderstorm late this afternoon. Fog patches dissipating early this afternoon. High 30 except 25 near Georgian Bay. UV index 10 or very high. Tonight: Mainly cloudy. 40 percent chance of showers this evening and after midnight with risk of a thunderstorm. Low 22.
Golf art ARE permitted for full use. Please scatter to avoid tracking concentrated wear spots over turf. Green speed is 9 feet with greens only rolled today to put less stress on turf with this heat.
The green staff is working hard to keep the course watered through this record heat spell. Hand watering and misting will be required during the daytime.
Some weak turf areas are starting to show in isolated areas. Many of these spots are in low traffic areas where weaker grasses have managed to establish over the past several wet seasons. Now that we're finally having a dry summer, these grasses cannot withstand the heat and drought and are in rapid decline. Again this is an opportunity for us to aerate these troubled location and introduce stronger more stress tolerate grasses that require less water and chemical inputs.
More sand is being placed in some of the bunkers as required. Today more sand was placed in the greenside bunkers on 9.
A reminder that greens will be topdressed this coming Tuesday July 26th.
