July 20th

Groomer reels run on greens prior to mowing this morning to stand-up grass
The turf received a breath of relief as temps dipped down to 11 degrees overnight giving the soil temps a break from the heat.  It's looking like another nice weekend with the rain for Sunday now postponed for Monday with a 40% chance of precipitation.  Today we can expect it to be mainly sunny with a high of 27. UV index 8 or very high. Tonight: A few clouds with a low almost down to single digits at 10 degrees!

This morning the greens will be groomed prior to mowing and rolling to stand up grass that is laying over to provide a truer putting surface for the weekend.  The prolonged heat and drought has played it's toll on isolated green hot spots with the decline of the poa annua.  The slit-seeding of bentgrass just over a week ago has showed some promise with new seedlings emerging.  The slitseeder will be run again next week in more of these isolated locations to take advantage of the declining poa to establish more bentgrass.

Ropes will be placed around some greens walk-off areas to help keep foot traffic off these stressed delicate areas.  Please help us by keeping off these areas as much as possible.

Another spray of Pyrate insecticide will be sprayed this morning this time on the back 9 to control the Annual Bluegrass Weevil larvae that has managed to put out a second generation with the prolonged heat this season.

With prolonged drought obviously carts are available, however please keep off mounds and stressed or dormant turf until it has a chance to recover.  Keep to paths where provided, and stay on fairways and scatter traffic.

Have a great weekend!
