A routine catch-up mow day is planned today after yesterday's damp and rainy morning causing standing water and the crew was sent home for the day.
WEATHER CONDITIONS
Last night's low temperature gave us some relief from the heat with it dropping down to 16 degrees. Today is expected to be a perfect day for golf with less humidity, a mix of sun and cloud with a high of only 24. Tonight will remain clear and temps dip down to 11! Some nicer night-time temperatures predicted on the weekend with highs of 27 degrees for some perfect growing weather for the turf with a little more dryness!
GOLF CART USAGE
Golf carts are available for FULL USE today on the course. Please avoid any low lying wet areas from yesterday's rainfall. Please use cartpaths where provided whenever possible and scatter traffic over turf area to avoid creating compaction that will require aerification.
COURSE PLAYABILITY
Greens - Were walk-mowed today without rolling avoiding new sod on No. 1 and 2 while it has a chance to knit and send down some roots. No. 14 and 17 which were sprayed with Velocity early last week and slit-seed 3x last Thursday, should start to show signs of germintion of bentgrass in the next day or two. A greens venting and topdressing is scheduled for the coming week to help get us through the peak summer heat period. Green speeds are running at closer to 9 feet with recent rain and humidity.
Fairways - Were roped first thing to remove dew and stand-up grass before mowing to help provide a tighter cut.
Bunkers - All bunkers were raked today. Some shoveling was required to fix washouts from yesterday morning's heavy rain.
Rough - A little catch up required with yesterday's day off from mowing. Tee surrounds are the focus while green surrounds will get mowed again before the weekend.
Gardens - Gardens will be sprayed today with Bobbex deer repellent today which gives off an unpleasant odor.
| Weekly Bobbex deer repellent application being applied to gardens this morning |
Driving Range - Due to yesterday's rainfall, the Driving Range remains open for PARTIAL USE ONLY. We were making headway with the standing water all drained but the 13mm downpour yesterday put us back under a little water. We ask that you hit only from the stations that are set up, and only at the flagsticks set up (yardages are indicated on the permanent marker). The range will be closed during certain times to hand pick as needed, and for Junior Clinics. Thank you for your understanding during this wet season with high lake levels.
Ground Under Repair - Treat all new sodded areas IN ROUGH as 'ground under repair'. No. 18 fairway has been overseeded to recover ice damage. Treat any bare areas on No. 18 as 'ground under repair'.
Course Etiquette - Please remember to repair ball marks and replace divots. If carrying your golf bag and using the sand tubes, please use on FAIRWAYS ONLY. Do not use sand tubes or bottles to fix tee divots!!! It's the golf course maintenance staff responsibility to repair all tee divots on a periodic basis. Using the sand and seed mix on tees will deplete your available material for fixing fairway divots prematurely! We also use a different seed on the tees for shadier conditions and quicker germination.
PLANT PROTECTION PRODUCTS
Now that the rain has stopped we will get out an make a spot spray application of mecoprop and ParIII to control clover in rough.
Have a great round!
