Timely Rains
After a five day stretch with no rain we received another 20mm last night to once again soak the golf course. There is now no need to water newly laid sod! The rain is supposed to continue most of the day and clear overnight in time for tomorrow's Ladies' Day event at 8am. The rains have also really helped in healing up the scars from the fairway verticutting and core aeration completed on greens earlier in the month.
Today with the wet conditions, the mowing activities will be postponed and we will focus on some peripheral jobs that need to be completed before the upcoming holiday weekend. The ditches will be line-trimmed. The walk-path to the driving range down the slope at the front entrance will be re-established. Unfortunately it is too wet again to apply weed control products which will have to be deferred again till later.
The greens staff had their monthly barbecue yesterday to celebrate the efforts put into the course over the last month. Staff members were recognized by their fellow workers for "going beyond the call of duty". Some long hours were put in and over 20 skids of sod were laid on the course to touch up areas in the last month. The course is looking great and it's shaping up to be a memorable summer!
