| "Last Day of Camp" theme for closing Ladies' Day event |
It's hard to believe it's the final week of the summer and the kids are going back to school next week. The final Ladies' Day event is on today with an afternoon 1:00pm shotgun with the theme "Last Day of Camp" which should make for another fun day!
After a hot and humid day yesterday with high's of 28, today has cooled down slightly with the overnight low down to 13 and a high this afternoon expected of only 20 degrees, a better temperature for golf and a bonfire!
The greens were cut and the bunkers raked this morning. The rough will continue to be mowed to catch up on the long grass after last week's wet conditions.
The driving range will be closed until 12:00pm for it's weekly maintenance procedures of mowing and filling in the tee divots. The new driving net will be open to those who wish to hit balls during the closure.
We appreciate all those who took part in the Bunker Sand Demo Day down on the range on Monday. A special thanks to Jordan who took the time to offer instruction on sand play while members were testing the four sands. There was a draw to win a sand wedge from the Proshop donated by Cobra Golf. The winner was Sue Whiteside! The Hutcheson Sand Company was on location during the event and kindly donated a pair of Blue Jay tickets. A draw for the tickets found Julie Osborne a winner!
A reminder that greens will be topdressed tomorrow. A select few greens will be 1/4" tine punched and overseeded in areas to promote more bentgrass where the poa annua is stuggling.
Over the next month we are assisting Bayer Environmental Science in a fungicide trial on fairways 13, 15, 16 and 17 to control dollar spot disease. Yesterday we made the first of two applications three weeks apart. We are treating half the fairway with TRILOGY SCTM turf fungicide that contains StressGardTM Formulation Technology. The other half of the fairway we treated with a competitor's product to see if there is any difference. There is also a 'check' area where no fungicide was sprayed to expose the disease pressure during the two treatments. The results of the trial will be timed to view in the upcoming Canadian Golf Superintendent's (CGSA) Fall Field Day event being hosted by MLGCC on September 23rd next month.
