Peak Summer Time As August Rolls In For Civic Holiday Weekend

It's August 1st and it's evident the days are getting shorter now as lights are required in the morning for our 5:30am start-time course preparations.

In preparation for today's fairway mowing, we brushed the fairways yesterday to help maintain a tigher surface for more roll and higher playability.

This morning in preparation for the Civic Holiday weekend we are mowing everything "down the middle" with tees, fairways, approaches, collars and greens being mowed.  The rough around the green surrounds will also be mowed for chipping consistency.

The fairways were also fertilized with Plant Science Mineral Builder 16-2-15 to maintain balanced fertility and optimize plant health for this month.

More time was spent along the hillside right side of No. 6 yesterday, to cleanup more saplings and leaves to aid in finding your ball and speeding up play.  The hillside was seeded with Scottish Links Mix.  Once established and left unmown, this formula provides competition against sappling growth with an aesthetically pleasing long-grassed links appearance. It is tolerant of shade, low fertility, and reduced irrigation.

Next week we plan to get started on brushing out the right side of No. 16 tee to improve the sight-lines east along Ferndale road.

A reminder that tomorrow is the MLA regatta being held at the MLGCC waterfront by the clubhouse.

Enjoy the Long Weekend and remember to fix your divots and ballmarks to help us maintain the great conditions!
