A Much Needed Rain

Yesterday afternoon/overnight the course finally received some much needed rainfall.  It's been over two weeks since it last rained, so the course is really showing the signs of drought stress and setback from the recent extreme heat, especially where shallow rooted poa annua grass dominates certain areas of the rough.  The 26mm total rainfall was delivered over many hours allowing it to soak into the soil and get the benefits from a good watering.

This morning the crew started at just before 5:30 am during the last bit of the light rain that was still falling.  The crew is doing its best to walk-mow the greens, working around areas where standing water may be lying.  The fairways are being cut today and the and blocks will be rotated.

The bunkers will remain untouched today until the remaining storm has a chance to pass through.  Some pumping may be required in select bunkers, so the traps will get a good going over tomorrow before the Men's Day.

We are two weeks away from the Club Championships being held on the weekend of August 15,16. With the timing of that tournament in mind, the fairways and greens will be topdressed this week so that the playing surfaces will be optimal for championship golf.  Tees topdressing may be addressed as well, if time and conditions permit with the short week ahead.

The greens, tees, fairways and rough will also get a feed of fertilizer this week.  This nourishment will help with recovery from the recent stressful hot, dry period and heavy traffic from heavy play over the last month.

The 122nd MLA Regatta was held again this year at the Club's waterfront.  The weather was perfect for the tradition of family, fun, and aquatic competition on the Saturday of the Civic Holiday weekend.
