This warm, humid weather has continued dollar spot disease pressure on our playing surfaces. With the hot, humid weather favouring a severe outbreak, a preventative application of fungicide will be applied on the greens and tees this morning, after mowing to prevent damage to the turf through this week.
Ball marks on greens have been bad lately, especially on the short par 3 No. 14 where all golfers have the opportunity to land on the dance floor. Ball marks left unrepaired take weeks to recuperate, whereas ball marks that are immediately repaired, recover in days. Don' t forget to do your part and fix your ball marks plus one other to help maintain optimum putting surfaces on our course.
Favourite Holes Identified
Some Greens Committee/Board Members took part in the Greens Staff's monthly barbeque a couple of weeks ago at the Turf Care Centre following a Greens Committee meeting tour of the golf course. As a ice-breaker, Greens chair, Marianne Anderson asked each staff and Club member in attendance, "What is your favourite hole on the course, and what is your their least favorite hole?"
| Hole No. 6 Voted Favourite Hole on Course |
The hole that captured the least favourite on the course was suprisingly No. 16. This is because of the pond down the middle which everyone struggles to avoid, as well as the out-of-bounds on the right of the fairway.
The rains of late have done wonders to recover the course from any stress to the turf during the peak summer stress period. While it's sad to see the summer draw to a close, it's cheering entering the fall; the ideal time of the year for golf with great course conditions, fall mums, cooler, crisp, clear sunny days, no bugs, and the nice aroma from evening fireplaces.
