Another One Bites The Dust

Another summer draws to a close this Labour Day weekend.  The course is in great shape for the big event of members and guests during this Sunday's Mixed Member Guest Tourney starting at 1:00 pm.

Speaking of dust, one of the drawbacks of our granite screening paths is the dust that is created during hot, dry period as we are currently in.  Yesterday a dust control product was applied to a select number of paths to help eliminate dust.  This is the first time we have applied a dust control product, so hopefully you will notice a difference.

The following paths were treated:

1. From No. 4 fairway to No. 4 green down hill to Ferndale road
2. From No. 7 fairway to Ferndale road on No. 8
3. From No. 8 green to No. 9 green
4. From No. 10 fairway to No. 11 tee
5. From No. 12 tee to Ferndale road on No. 13

The product we are testing is put out by the Andemar Dust & Ice Control Ltd. called Dust Eliminator VO1.  This product is an environmentally friendly product that is biodegradable.  Unlike traditional products such as Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium and Chlorides, Dust Eliminator VO1 is a vegetable-based water borne liquid that can hold down dust by coating dust particles not only on the surface, but deep into the substrate.

We made a modification to our hydro seed water trailer to include 5 soaker nozzles at the back that spray out the exact width of the cartpaths.  This setup will also be useful for other applications such as watering areas of new sod etc.
