The sun is back up and the battle continues on the golf course fighting to keep adequate moisture levels on the turf with this prolonged stretch of dry weather. The crew is becoming quite comfortable with a hose this season. Since the beginning of May we've only received 90 mm of rain on the golf course compared to double the amount last year. Last week we had 4 days top the 30 degree Celsius mark, a high not attained during the entire last season!
As a result of the conditions a lot of water has ran lately to keep up with the dryness. Thank you for your patience with the watering during your round. The combination of the sunny days with low humidity, coupled with the very long days this time of year has added severe moisture pressure to the turf.
Despite the weather the course is playing well with firmer and faster conditions. Some extra roll is being gained on the fairways as a result.
The recovery from the recent aeration has gone quite well despite the weather conditions. Playing Thursday morning I felt the greens were rolling quite well considering they were just aerated just over a week ago. They've definitely come a long way in one week rebounding from the stress from the aerating process and the hot weather.
The greens will get a light topdress this coming Tuesday morning to further fill any remaining aeration holes and smooth the surface.
Now that July is approaching, we will be taking care of some maintenance items specified by our Golf Course Standards. The banks along the left side of No. 18 and the hillside on No. 4 tees will be mowed down next week before July 1st.
Trimming on No. 4 Back Tee Complete
Trimming Around No. 4 Middle Tee This Coming Week
Have a great round.
