June 28th

Greens dethatched using Thatch-Away reels before topdressing

This morning the greens will be dethatched using the Thatch-Away reels on the Toro greens mower, then topdressed to get sand into the profile. Thatch is the number one enemy of good putting surfaces. This layer of excess organic matter holds water, and therefore encourages shallow-rooted Poa Annua to dominate the turf. Thatch produces a surface that is soft and spongy when damp, yet quickly dries out and turns yellow at the first sign of a drought.

Today Environment Canada is calling for it to be cloudy with 60 percent chance of showers and risk of a thunderstorm. Wind becoming west 20 km/h this afternoon. High 20. UV index 5 or moderate. Tonight: cloudy with 60 percent chance of showers and risk of a thunderstorm. Low 13.

Golf carts ARE PERMITTED today. We received 1/4" of rain at 3 am so please avoid wet areas and use cart paths were provided. Green speed is 8.5 feet with overnight rainfall.
