July 18th

Overseeding fairway expansion areas No. 5 and No. 7 with bentgrass yesterday

Today is Ladies' Day with an 8 am shotgun this morning on the course.

A little cooler night last night with it down to 17 compared to Monday night's 26 as a low.  Today Environment Canada is calling for it to be sunny with a high of 27. UV index 8 or very high. Tonight: Clear and down to a low of only 13.  Still no rain received in last couple of days and nothing in forecast until Sunday.

A reminder that the driving range will be closed from 9:30 to 12:30 for maintenance today.

Oars wetting agent will be sprayed on the greens prior to play this morning to help with water penetration.  OARS removes the organic waxy coatings that attach to soil particles which cause soil water repellency.

The greens venting, bentgrass overseeding and topdressing was successfully completed yesterday.  After a couple more rolls, the greens should be back to their prime form for the weekend with a much needed breath of fresh air with the venting aeration.

Yesterday the thin fairway expansion areas on the start and left side of No. 5 and the start and right side of No. 7 were overseeded with bentgrass using the Turfco Triwave 60 overseeder (pictured above).  These expanded area contain a lot of poa annua which are suffering from the extended heat and drought.  With some bentgrass establishment in these areas the turf will be able to withstand the heat and drought with less water, and fertilizer requirements for improved playability.

Have a great round!
