September 11th - Front 9 Closed for Aeration Today

Greens & Approaches aerated today on front 9
The weather looks like it will be perfect for the next couple days to perform the aeration to the greens and approaches.  Today it will be sunny with a high of 24 degrees with some wind from the southwest to help dry things out for the cleanup.

The 1/4" hollow tines being used on the greens will be less disruptive to those golfers playing later in the week and in this Friday's Director's Day.  In the past we have traditionally used a half inch tine which makes for bumpy greens for a longer period of time following treatment due to the amount of material removed.

Nothing is more frustrating to a golfer than to hit a shot to a firm green and have it plug into a wet, soft approach!  We are working hard to incorporate as much sand into the soil profile of the approaches and minimize the thatch to try and match the composition of the greens.  The approaches are going to be aerated at the same time using larger 1/2" tines spaced close together.  The material will be removed with shovels and then sand topdressed into the holes to firm up the playability of these surfaces.

The tees will be aerated at a later date. With only 2 machines (borrowed one from a neighbouring club) we want to focus on the areas that affect playability the most.

Tomorrow the front 9 will reopen and the same process will follow on the back 9.

We apologize for the inconvenience this important process may cause.  The recovery will be quick, and we can get back to enjoying great conditions for the remainder of the beautiful fall!
