No. 14 Green sodded yesterday where recovery from winter damage suspect |
A little frost this morning delaying the crew start time till 7:30 am. Environment Canada is calling for sunny skies with wind becoming northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40 this afternoon. High 15 except 7 near Georgian Bay. Tonight wind becoming light with a low of plus 3 with risk of frost for Sunday morning.
Golf Carts are permitted for today's Brad Stevens Memorial Event. The course is extremely wet after this week's 75mm of rain which ended by Friday morning. So please use caution and keep carts on paths where provided and avoid any wet/low areas.
Course Playability
The course is playing long today with moist conditions prevailing. Green speeds are slower than normal with higher mowing heights and moisture conditions at this time.
Temporary Greens
Two temps remain on the course (No. 2 and No. 17) through this weekend while nursing turf through ice damage.

Drainage being installed in wet No. 2 green yesterday |
No. 2 is having drainage installed prior to sodding this Monday. No. 17 was just sodded yesterday along with No. 14, so we would like to have sod knit prior to allowing regular play. On No. 14 green, the sod is deemed 'Ground Under Repair' and roped off for this weekend.
No. 14 Tee
The asphalt was paved on Wednesday this week. It was too wet to place and grade the topsoil in around No. 13 green and No. 14 tee with the rain this week, so the sodding won't be completed until this Monday. Yesterday the fescue was sodded along the bank on No. 14 tee along No. 18 where the area was already graded and prepped for sod.
Fescue sod placed on No. 14 tee hillside along No. 18 yesterday |
The temporary PTO pump running of the tractor is running 24/7 at the driving range in hope of draining down the lake caused by this springs flooding from high lake levels and 75mm of rainfall this week. and and continues to pump water directly to the lake outlet at the docks. Hopefully the rain has stopped and we can catch up in the next few days to open the range for next weekend on June 1st.
Bunkers
The bunkers took a beating this week with the repeated washouts and wet conditions from the storm activity and are therefore not in mid-season form. This week with some drier weather we will get a chance to improve the conditions
Long Rough
We apologize about the long rough but with this weeks 75mm of rain it has been literally impossible to get the mowers out to cut down the grass without causing damage. To add to the challenge, the Kentucky bluegrass also loves this cooler, moist weather and is thriving making keeping up nearly impossible.
Course Etiquette
Please remember to repair ball marks and replace divots. If carrying your golf bag and using the sand tubes, please use on FAIRWAYS ONLY. Maintenance staff repairs all tee divots and uses a different seed then what is used on fairways.
Have a great round!
