June 18th
WEATHER CONDITIONS
Spring-like weather continues with yesterday's high only reaching 18 degrees. Last night temperatures dipped down to 10 degrees to start the morning. Today, the clouds are supposed to clear and become sunny with a high of 19 degrees. UV index very high with clear skies.
GOLF CARTS
Are permitted for full-use today. Please avoid low lying wet areas from Sunday's rainfall and keep carts to paths whenever possible to avoid causing unnecessary wear to turf.
COURSE PLAYABILITY
Ground Under Repair - Treat all new sodded areas IN ROUGH as 'ground under repair'. No. 18 fairway has been overseeded to recover ice damage. Treat any bare areas on No. 18 as 'ground under repair'.
Greens - Greens will be cut today but not rolled for today's round. Green speeds are becoming a little faster with drier conditions, sand disappearing off the surface and better cut from greens mowers. Green speeds expected to be approximately 9 feet.
Rough - The crew completed the greens surrounds yesterday with the light-weight rough mowers and today will focus on the tee surround areas while the big tractor rough mower finishes the first loop around the course.
Bunkers - The green side bunkers received a good hard hand rake yesterday to loosen up the compacted, wet sand from the recent wet weather. A select few needed to be pumped out and left to dry a bit before raking would be effective. Today the greensides were touched up and more focus was placed on addressing the sand depths amongst the fairways bunkers.
Driving Range - The driving range is closed until further notice. The PTO pump now only runs through the day with noise restrictions now in play. The recent 24mm of rain, combined with pumping restriction have set us back a bit with draining down the water. If weather cooperates and we don't receive too much rain we should be able to have the range open for July 1.
Course Etiquette - Please remember to repair ball marks and replace divots. If carrying your golf bag and using the sand tubes, please use on FAIRWAYS ONLY. Maintenance staff repairs all tee divots and uses a different seed then what is used on fairways.
COURSE MAINTENANCE
Greens Foliar Spray - A foliar application of fertilizer and Primo Maxx will be applied to the greens this morning.
Insect Larvae Preventative Tee and Fairway/Rough Hot Spot Spray - DuPont™ Acelepryn™ will be applied to tees and select areas around the property as a preventative against areas with a history of Annual Bluegrass Weevil and Japanese Beetle larvae damage. It's a relatively new way to control grubs and other turf-damaging pests while also minimizing the impact on the environment. It is an entirely new insecticide class with a novel mode of action. Studies prove that it delivers superior results at the lowest application rate (kg active ingredient/Ha) ever utilized for grub control. A single application offers superior control of cutworms, European chafer larvae, Japanese beetle larvae and annual bluegrass weevil.
Fairway Topdressing - The fairway topdressing will be finished today on fairways 13-18 that wasn't completed last Thursday due to rain.
New Bentgrass Sod Topdressing - The sodded bentgrass on No. 1, 2, 10, 14, and 17 will be topdressed today to further smooth out the surface.
GARDENS
If you notice an unpleasant odour...today a Bobbex Deer repellent spray will be applied to the gardens.
Have a great round!
