Sodbed will be seeded this week to ensure in-house sod supply for next season |
It's now the middle of July and over the weekend the weather was extremely dry with temperatures on Saturday reaching 28, and Sunday 31 with low humidity levels of 40%. Today will be a repeat of yesterday with highs expected of 32 for today's Men's Day starting at 1:30pm.
GOLF CART USAGE
Golf carts are available today for FULL USE. With peak season play please be conscious of stress on turf caused by concentrated traffic. Scatter carts to avoid excessive wear. Please use cart paths where provided.
COURSE CONDITIONS
Greens - Were cut and rolled today. Green speeds are 9.5 this morning and increasing to 10 by this afternoon. Select areas on greens 1, 2 and 10 where imported sod quality was poor and struggling despite attempts to revive it, was re-sodded using our quality nursery sod and ropped off for weekend. Greens 14 and 17 where the unsodded portion was sprayed with Velocity to reduce the presence of Poa annua (annual bluegrass) within creeping bentgrass/Poa mixed stands of turf, is showing signs of recovery now with the bentgrass germinated from 3x slitseeding on July 4. Some dimple seeding will be done this week on any remaining voids to increase recovery.
Fairways/Approaches - Were mowed today. Tomorrow a Primo Maxx growth regulator and foliar fertilizer will be applied.
Rough - Crew is back in after the weekend to mow the green surrounds with the lightweight rough mowers. The large tractor unit will start to make its round first round around the course to finish up by tomorrow. Back 9 rough will be sprayed for crabgrass this morning.
Bunkers - Greenside bunkers will be hand-raked with fan rakes today. Fairway bunkers will be spun with the Sand Pro rake.
Ground Under Repair - Treat all new sodded areas IN ROUGH as 'ground under repair'. No. 18 fairway has been overseeded to recover ice damage. Treat any bare areas on No. 18 as 'ground under repair'.
Course Etiquette - Please remember to repair ball marks and replace divots. If carrying your golf bag and using the sand tubes, please use on FAIRWAYS ONLY. Do not use sand tubes or bottles to fix tee divots!!! It's the golf course maintenance staff responsibility to repair all tee divots on a periodic basis. Using the sand and seed mix on tees will deplete your available material for fixing fairway divots prematurely! We also use a different seed on the tees for shadier conditions and quicker germination.
Driving Range - The Driving Range remains open for PARTIAL USE ONLY. We ask that you hit only from the stations that are set up, and only at the flagsticks set up (yardages are indicated on the permanent marker). The range will be closed during certain times to hand pick as needed, and for Junior Clinics. Thank you for your understanding during this wet season with high lake levels. With the drier weather the water levels are dropping and ditches are getting lower allowing us to get ahead of the standing water. The repeated flooding of the range has also caused a lot of debris to enter the system which will be hydro vacuumed this week.Gardens - The tree lilies outside of the proshop are now in bloom and are beautiful and the lavender planted along the path in the parking lot is in bloom and is a success.
Lavender is in full bloom through parking lot |
Greens will be vented and topdressed Tuesday morning July 16th (weather permitting)
Have a great round!
