Extremely Wet Week On Course - But It's Green

Course looking great after successful overwintering

Course is looking great but ground conditions are totally saturated on our low lying golf course after a wet week with over 80mm of rain falling on the course.  Our drainage pumps are working around the clock to remove the excess water.  Walking the course will be strongly encouraged this weekend, as carts will be restricted to the BACK 9 MEDICAL USE as saturated soils continue to dry.

Although the course has fortunately overwintered extremely well, it's taken some time to melt the 16 feet of snow that fell in Muskoka this winter with the late start to normal spring weather.  The continued water runoff down hillsides surrounding the property has perpetuated the soggy conditions.

Leading into our course opening on the back 9 on Friday May 9th, the course's drainage system was making great strides to drain the property.  The ditch water levels were drained down to normal levels and the driving range fully pumped down.  I guess we jinxed ourselves by scheduling to go down to seed the driving range on Wednesday this week, arriving to it flooded after 60mm+ of heavy rain activity Tuesday night put a damper on those plans.

A couple areas of 'Ground Under Repair' to note to exercise caution on the weekend.  First, left of No. 1 tee; work is being completed to fix the irrigation break of the 6 inch line crossing the road to tennis and the driving range.  And second, the drainage across the third fairway approximately 100 yards out from the green is being repaired and is roped off until ground conditions allow sod repairs to be completed.

We look forward to seeing everyone back on the course and hope your cottages overwintered as well as the golf course did!
