The Chilly Long Weekend

Sadly, the chilly temperatures are continuing this morning. The cold temperatures have once again resulted in frost. This will push tee times back by an hour. We understand the inconvenience that pushing tee times back has on everyone, but it is a must when it comes to preserving turf health. If stepped on or mowed, frosty turf will die. The frost creates unnatural turgidity and if touched, will literally snap the plant. This causes cell damage which will kill the plant.
Other then the frosty start to the day, the mid day temperatures will once again be in the high teens.

There was a decent amount of play yesterday. It was great to see so many people out enjoying the nice weather and the beautiful golf course after such a long winter. The course remains more on the wet than dry side. The spring ground water is still fairly high. This makes it difficult for rain water to move throughout the soil. Water is then forced to mainly use drains, which takes a little longer.  Due to this, carts will remain off the course.
This morning, the turf crew will be fairly busy. The project near one tee will continue to be worked on. This is nearly done and just needs a few touch ups. The pins will be changed, the bunkers will be touched up and the tee blocks will be rotated. Last but certainly not least, the greens will be mowed.
Now for something we don't see too often. Mike Weir is only one shot back going into the final round of the HP Bryon Nelson Championship. Mike has been going through some tough times lately and it is very nice to see him back in the mix on Sunday.

Enjoy this beautiful Sunday and have a great round!
