Reminder that Greens, Tees and Approaches will be aerated Monday and Tuesday this week |
While the Dave Ellis Pro Am is behind us and the regular member Men's and Ladies' Day events don't get started until next week, we are taking advantage of the lull in play and we are busy on the course making preparations of the playing surfaces to help ensure great conditions for the summer.
The fairways were verticut, topdressed and fertilized last week. This process removed unwanted thatch and helps smooth the surface for increased playability through the summer. Over 200 tons of sand were spread over the fairways to fill in low areas!
As well a reminder that this week today and tomorrow we will be aerating the greens, tees and approaches. This process reduces organic matter in the rootzone, helps with water infiltration into the soil, relieves compaction and creates an ideal seedbed for germination of bentgrass seed to promote stronger turfgrass species.
Monday the front 9 will be closed to aerate and the back 9 will remain open. Then Tuesday the 9's are reversed and the back 9 will be aerated.
This is a great time of year to tackle this important procedure. The rapid growth at this time of year will help fill in the holes quickly and get the greens back in top-notch condition as quick as possible. The poa is expending a lot of it's energy making seed heads at the moment, so this is an ideal opportunity to establish some more bentgrass.
