Rain and Moderate Temperatures Persist

This summer has been predominately wet with moderate temperatures so far.  This has resulted in minimal stress on the poa annua grass on the playing surfaces which thrives in the cooler damp weather, which has kept the course in an emerald green.  In the last week the daytime temperatures haven't gone above 25 degrees and the night-time temps have remained in the lower teens.  The average highs and lows have been a couple of degrees cooler than the last couple of years.

Today, showers or thunderstorms are supposed to end this morning and clear this afternoon for Men's Day, but there is a risk of a thunderstorm late this morning and early this afternoon.  The high will be 24 with a UV index 7 or high.

It was a big weekend in golf as Canada's Roger Sloan from Merritt, British Columbia won the Nova Scotia Open on Sunday for his first Web.com Tour title, holing a 5-foot par putt on the first hole of a playoff with Derek Fathauer.  He played 37 holes Sunday after high wind from Tropical Storm Arthur wiped out third-round play Saturday. Sloan is the third Canadian to win a Web.com Tour event in Canada, following Richard Zokol in the 2001 Canadian PGA Championship and David Hearn in the 2004 Alberta Classic.

The 44-year-old Angel Cabrera snapped a five-year drought on the PGA Tour and became its oldest winner this season, closing with his second straight 6-under 64 at the Greenbrier Classic to beat George McNeill by two strokes Sunday.  Angel Cabrera has some much-needed momentum heading to the British Open in his quest for a title in a third different major.

Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland came from eight shots back to retain his French Open title Sunday, shooting a 4-under 67 in pouring rain to win by one stroke.

The wet weather has interupted the schedule of some of our much need practices.  The greens are overdue to be verticut and topdressed and the clover is getting ahead of us and need to be sprayed if we get a few drier days.  Hopefully the rain holds off tomorrow so the greens verticutting and topdressing can go as scheduled.

Have a great round!
