Lift, Clean and Place Through the Green
For today's damp conditions during round one of the championship, a ball lying through the green may be lifted without penalty and cleaned. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position. Having lifted the ball, he must place it on a spot within one scorecard length of and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay, that is not in a water hazard and not on a putting green. The ball must be placed in the same cut of grass that it originally lay.
Lift, Clean and Place in a Sand Bunker
A ball lying in a sand bunker may be lifted without penalty and cleaned. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position. Having lifted the ball, he must place it on a spot not nearer the hole where there is no visible standing water.
Yesterday the stage was set for firm and fast conditions for this weekend's club championship event. The greens and fairways we're drying out to the perfect moisture level giving the required firmness for speed and bounce. The crew worked hard and had the bunker sand loosed to the perfect firmness and consistent sand depth throughout the sand traps.
Unfortunately Mother Nature decided she wasn't going to cooperate and delivered some heavy rainfall later yesterday afternoon washing out all the bunkers and paths.
Fortunately the quick heavy rain left no standing water, draining quickly into the ditches, so the turf playing surfaces (greens, fairways and approaches) remain fairly firm and playable, and accessible to power carts. Luckily, there was no heavy wind associated with the thunderstorm, requiring additional tree and brush cleanup.
