Last Blast of Winter Prolongs Early Spring Opening

8G, 10G and 13G seen just after greens cover removal April 19th
During early March, it was looking like we needed to start planning for a very early spring, with the warm temperatures and minimal snow cover that existed.  At that time it appeared the ice on the lake didn't have far to go before it would be melted and open for boats again.  But a week later winter decided to return and hold on well into the middle of April delaying the melt and our course spring cleanup start-date.  Everything has a way of balancing out and we are looking at a spring golf course opening similar to last year in a couple weeks on Thursday May 5th.

The graph below shows the high temps (in red) and lows (in blue) from our weather station from the period just before the Family Day weekend (the coldest period this winter) to today.

Last weekend, the temperatures finally reaching over the double-digit mark into the low 20's.  The snow quickly left to allow for the greens covers to be removed this week which uncovered 18 emerald-green playing surfaces!  We're pleased to announce the overall course has overwintered extremely well and we are looking forward to the 2016 golf season ahead.

One of the first signs of spring at the course is the start of the greenhouse late March in the upper yard area to grow the annuals for the Club's vast floral display.  Chris Cumming, Landscape Horticulturalist and his assistant Scott Riley have this process down to a science over the years and it's no fluke why our gardens are some of the best in the Muskoka area.

Keep posted for more course updates as things unfold.
