May 24th

We had some good weather this past Friday and Saturday.  But the course is a little saturated now after 1.75 inches of rain fell over Sunday and Monday.  The pumps are working overtime to drain the property.  With only 4 groups on the tee sheet, carts are permitted today but please avoid wet areas, follow cart signs and use paths were provided.

Environment Canada is calling for a mix of sun and cloud, 30 percent chance of showers this morning. Fog patches dissipating this morning. Wind northwest 20 km/h. Temperature falling to 11 this afternoon. UV index 7 or high.

With the club-wide staff training day scheduled tommorrow and with the short week the staff need to stick to regular mowing schedule today despite wet conditions to cut greens, tees and fairways. Mowers will start in higher and dryer areas of course to allow wet area more time to drain.

Cutting heights have been creeping down slowly over the weekend and are now down to the regular mowing height we carry through the summer. Green speeds should start to quicken this week as drier conditions prevail. Today speeds are around 8 with the damp weather.

Crew is out doing the extra work of pumping out the poorly draining bunkers, and shovelling up sand that washed out after yesterday's downpour. Cartpaths will need to be regraded as well.

This weeks priorities centre around getting the property mowed and finishing the sod plugging on the remain green expansion areas. We also hope to root prune behind 12 green to alleviate competition for water and nutrients of the turf with the cork trees.

The online registration starts this week for those signing up for junior programs.
