May 15th

Irrigation installed on No. 14 tee yesterday
The crew started the day today at 6:00 am with windy conditions and slightly warmer low temperature as of late of 8 degrees.  Thirty minutes later the lightning detection system sounded to warn of a thunderstorm rolling through the area!  By 6:45 am the storm had rolled past.

Environment Canada is calling for a few showers today, ending late this morning then clearing.  Wind southeast 20 km/h becoming west 40 gusting to 60 early this afternoon. High 17.  Tonight expected to be clear and go back down to 7 degrees with gusting wind off the lake continuing.

Golf carts ARE PERMITTED for full use today.  Please use cartpaths where provided and stay out of wet areas and any newly laid sod that may not be ropped off.

To aid in the ice damage recovery process during this cooler weather, 5 temporary greens remain tarped until further notice on Holes 2, 5, 12, 17, and 18. Greens 10 and 14 are open but are tarped on damaged areas.

The previous warm spell earlier in the month provided germination of the overseeded greens.  However this cold spell during the last 4 days has done nothing to aid in the growth of the developing seedlings or recovering existing turf.  This morning the soil temperatures are at 8 degrees and even with the gain of 4 degrees under the covers, it's still too low for turf growth!

The good news is that next week the night-time temperatures are predicted to not drop below the 13-14 degree range and the daytime highs will go back to normal, which should help kick in the new seedlings as well as the existing turf that is recovering.

Enjoy your round!
