Today in Ontario Video Released Partly Featuring MLGCC

On Thursday, the Ontario Golf Superintendents' Association (OGSA) released their much awaited golf course promotional video titled "Today in Ontario".  Some of the footage was filmed at MLGCC early June during a one day shoot.  The video features some great aerial video and captured wildlife shots.  Connor Hamilton, (Assistant in Training pictured above) was caught on No. 3 green changing holes.

The video can be seen by clicking here and explains the environmental, economic, social and health benefits golf courses and the game of golf has to offer our communities.  Well done OGSA!

PEAK SUMMER CONDITIONS AT CLUB

With the 85mm dose of rain drenching the course earlier last week, the turf has made a decent recovery from the hot, drought conditions.  The greens remain quite firm despite the rainfall due to the drill and fill operations completed over the last several years.  The turfgrass roots are very deep as a result of the sand channels, which drastically reduces the water requirements to keep the grass healthy.

Sunny weather is predicted over the next couple days through Pro's Day on Monday, with some rain in forecast for the balance of the week.

This Tuesday morning is scheduled our bi-weekly greens sand topdressing so hopefully the weather cooperates.  We plan to verticut the greens using our Thatchaway Verticutter Units prior to the topdress application to continue to minimize thatch accumulation and true the greens up by reducing the grass blades that are laying over (grain).

If you are planning on bringing out a special guest Tuesday, plan to book your tee time later in the morning in order for us ample time to complete this important process.  The greens will be very firm, smooth and true immediately following the procedure!

Thanks for your patience.  Your greens don't get as good as they are without some necessary periodic maintenance!

Have a great round!
