Fairway bentgrass overseeding last couple days will benefit from rain in forecast |
The fairway expansion areas that were carved out a couple years ago are suffering from the lack the desired grass (bentgrass) in the mix. Poa annua and Kentucky Bluegrass still dominate these areas and have declined from the heat and the lower mowing height. These areas were overseeded and topdressed the last couple of days with modern varieties of bentgrass to improve the density of turfgrass in these areas going forward. We are taking advantage of the opportunity to establish hardier grasses with the cooler nights this time of year and ride the rain in the forecast for some rapid germination. We hope you understand the needed disruption to benefit the long term health of the course.
Golf carts ARE PERMITTED at this time and with the firm drought conditions should hold up well even if a little rain is received over the next few days.
Topdressing the remaining areas that were overseeded will be completed this morning and matted in before the rain. A fertilizer application is being applied on the tees.
Have a great round!
