No. 2 green will be sodded today |
WEATHER CONDITIONS
Another cooler night Monday evening with low temps of 5 degrees just warm enough that there was no frost so the crew was able to start their morning tasks yesterday promptly at 6am. Yesterday the daytime temps reached 18 degrees and we missed the threating showers coming up from the southeast enabling us to complete some agronomic practices. Overnight a few showers rolled through ending with a thunderstorm at daybreak and 7mm of rain accumulation. Today we are expecting a day time high of 21 except 10 near Georgian Bay with wind becoming west 20 km/h gusting to 40 this afternoon. Tonight, wind becoming light with a low of 16 which will be good for growth of recovering turf.
GOLF CARTS are permitted for today. With accumulation of rain overnight please use caution and keep carts on paths where provided and avoid any wet/low areas.
COURSE PLAYABILITY
Greens - If we miss the predicted wet weather activity in the next few days, green speeds should increase slightly as the week advances with mowing heights dropping slightly for early June play.
The temporary green on No. 17 will be removed today. The temporary green on No. 2 will remain today for the completion of sodding and will be opened on the later in the week, once the sod has had a few days to knit in.
Rough - The Rough is extremely long in spots at the moment as we continue to try and catch up with three mowers after last week's wet weather and surge in growth.
Bunkers - If the weather cooperates we plan on giving the bunkers a good going over before the weekend to ensure sand levels and conditions are back to normal standard.
Driving Range - The water levels at the driving range were down at least a foot yesterday from original levels. The temporary PTO pump continues to run 24/7 at the driving range in hope of draining down the lake that still remains. We hoped to have it drained down for the weekend, but with the rain in the forecast, we might be fighting a losing battle.
Course Etiquette - Please remember to repair ball marks and replace divots. If carrying your golf bag and using the sand tubes, please use on FAIRWAYS ONLY. Maintenance staff repairs all tee divots and uses a different seed then what is used on fairways.
COURSE MAINTENANCE
Greens verticut and topdressed yesterday |
Yesterday the greens were verticut and topdressed. The ice damage spots on No. 1, 5, 7, 10, 11, 13, 17 and 18 fairways were slit-seeded with bentgrass. Today we are continuing the rough mowing despite the wet weather to try and chance up from last week. The greens will be dry cut this afternoon after the greens haved dried up.
COURSE PRODUCT APPLICATIONS
Yesterday we made an application of Par III herbicide to control dandilions in select locations locations around the course.
Today the wetting agent PBS 150 will be applied on the tees to help reduce hydrophobic conditions through the season.
PROJECTS The last major load of sod is here today to button-up the majority of work on the course. There was a couple skids of bluegrass still need around the cartpath island to complete No. 14 tee area.
No. 2 green will be sodded today as we used the balance of bentgrass sod on Monday to sod the front of No. 10 green and approach to meet the fairway. A couple of small patches on the front and back of No. 1 green will be sodded as well.
The large prepped area past the fairway bunker where the poplars were removed this winter will be sodded with bluegrass. The irrigation repair along the road by No. 2 tees/No. 8 fairway will be cleaned up and sodded.
The shed right of No. 18 green in the sailing area was moved this morning to allow an unobstructed view on the green.
Shed moved over in sailing area right of No. 18 green this morning. |
Have a great round!
