June 4th

Another successful Dave Ellis Pro Am Hospital Charity held at MLG&CC

Another successful Dave Ellis Pro Am event hosted by MLGCC yesterday.  The weather cleared and the sun was out for the participants with howling NW winds 40km/hr off the lake making for some interesting club selections. The charity event once again raised another $20,000 for the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation now raising over $500,000 in the last quarter century.

WEATHER CONDITIONS
Yesterday's high only reached 13 degrees with the high pressure front coming through and high winds from the NW.  The last couple of nights the temperature has dropped to single digits with a low just below 6 degrees last evening. Today will be sunny and climb to 20 degrees, a far cry from late last weeks 30 degree weather.  Tonight will continue to be clear till near midnight with a low of 7.

GOLF CARTS are permitted today.  There are still some isolated wet areas out there from the recent rain so please use caution and keep carts on paths where provided.

CAUTION! The tree in the bush right of No. 5 green is still hung up and flagged that fell on Sunday.  Please keep away until it is dismantled by the tree professionals in the next couple of days.

COURSE PLAYABILITY
The course has dried up a lot after yesterday's windy conditions and drainage time.  Expect to get a little more roll out there then the last couple of days.
Ground Under Repair - Treat all new sodded areas IN ROUGH as 'ground under repair'.  No. 18 fairway has been overseeded to recover ice damage.  Treat any bare areas on No. 18 as 'ground under repair'.
Greens - Green speeds are approximately 9-9.5 feet  being cut today but not rolled.
Rough - We are getting caught up on the rough with the drier weather.  However with the recent moisture it is growing faster than we can cut it right now.  In the next couple days we should be able to cut over the areas where excessive clippings have accumulated to make the rough more playable.
Bunkers - The bunkers were raked again this morning and are drying out for better performance closer to normal course standards.
Driving Range -  The driving range is closed until further notice.  The PTO pump ran all night and we had to pull it in for maintenance this morning and will get it back running later today.  The next couple of days of drier weather should help us gain on draining down the low lying area.
Course Etiquette - Please remember to repair ball marks and replace divots.  If carrying your golf bag and using the sand tubes, please use on FAIRWAYS ONLY.  Maintenance staff repairs all tee divots and uses a different seed then what is used on fairways.

COURSE MAINTENANCE
  • Green and fairways are being fertilized this morning.
  • Select thin areas on greens from ice damage will be aerified with 3/8" tines and overseed with bentgrass.
  • Newly sodded areas on greens, tees and approaches are being topdressed
  • Long grass around high tee surrounds are being mowed down this week.
  • Cart paths are being graded.

Have a great round!
