July 17th

EVENTS
Starting with a morning and afternoon shotgun, the Ladies will attempt to 'Beat the Pro' today, as Jordan will be set up on No. 6 all day to test everyone's skills.  Tomorrow the Ladies of MLGCC will compete against Windemere in an interclub event starting with an 8:30 modified shotgun.

WEATHER CONDITIONS
Yesterday's high reached 33 degrees with 42% humidity for an extremely hot and dry day.  The night-time temps never dropped below 20 last night so it's been a cooker.  Today Environment Canada is calling for a mix of sun and cloud with 30 percent chance of showers late this afternoon with risk of a thunderstorm. Wind becoming southwest 20 km/h late this morning. High 32. UV index 9 or very high.  Tonight,  it will be partly cloudy with 30 percent chance of showers this evening and after midnight with risk of a thunderstorm. Wind west 20 km/h becoming light late this evening. Low 20.

GOLF CART USAGE
Golf carts are available today for FULL USE.  With peak season play please be conscious of stress on turf caused by concentrated traffic.  Scatter carts to avoid excessive wear.  Please use cart paths where provided.  Keeping carts on paths on par 3's is a good practice.

COURSE CONDITIONS
Greens - Pink flag sticks are out.  Greens were cut a rolled only today.  Green speeds will be 9.5 this morning and 10 this afternoon as greens dry out.  Scheduled venting and topdressing was postponed until next Tuesday due to extremely hot weather.  Sections on No. 14 were spot dimpled and overseeded to promote more bentgrass in thinned out Poa areas.  No. 17 will be completed tomorrow.

Gently hand dimpling 14G in weak areas and overseeded with bentrass on 14 yesterday

Tees - Pink blocks were put out for today's 'Beat the Pro' Ladies event
Fairways - Were dragged to remove dew and aid in disease control this morning.
Rough - The rough mowers will focus on the driving range and tennis areas today to avoid disturbing the ladies day event.
Bunkers - Bunkers were fan raked this morning.
Ground Under Repair - Treat all new sodded areas IN ROUGH as 'ground under repair'.  No. 18 fairway has been overseeded to recover ice damage.  Treat any bare areas on No. 18 as 'ground under repair'.
Course Etiquette - Please remember to repair ball marks and replace divots.  If carrying your golf bag and using the sand tubes, please use on FAIRWAYS ONLY.  Do not use sand tubes or bottles to fix tee divots!!!  It's the golf course maintenance staff responsibility to repair all tee divots on a periodic basis.  Using the sand and seed mix on tees will deplete your available material for fixing fairway divots prematurely!  We also use a different seed on the tees for shadier conditions and quicker germination.
Driving Range - The Driving Range remains open for PARTIAL USE ONLY. We ask that you hit only from the stations that are set up, and only at the flagsticks set up (yardages are indicated on the permanent marker). The range will be closed during certain times to hand pick as needed, and for Junior Clinics. Thank you for your understanding during this wet season with high lake levels.  It's been a battle!  With the drier weather the water levels are dropping and ditches are getting lower allowing us to get ahead of the standing water.  The debris in the pump chamber from the repeated flooding of the range will be hydro vacuumed this Thursday to increase the efficiency of the drainage system.
Gardens - The course gardens are being weeded today.

Have a great round!
