Championship Eve...

Pine dead from Sawyer beetle removed yesterday along No. 18
It's the day before the Club championship and the crew is making final preparations for this weekend's event.  It's a full mow day with all the playing surfaces getting cut and bunkers getting final touchups.  The greens are firm and a little faster finally with the drier conditions giving more tournament-like speeds.  The crew had a busy week working very hard with the preparations this weekend.  We hope you enjoy the conditions they have provided and you have decided to either play in this weekend's championships or will be participating in the gallery on the 18th Sunday afternoon!

The greens have been double cut and rolled this morning to achieve this weekend's tournament speeds and trueness. On Saturday and Sunday the greens will be single-cut and rolled maintaining the desired pace with the limited morning prep time available.

The crew stayed late yesterday to remove the pine tree that died from Sawyer pine beetle.  Pine sawyer beetles are secondary invaders that lay eggs in conifers that are declining as a result of any kind of stress.  The heat and drought stress of the last two hot summers probably started the decline of this pine tree.  This season being fairly wet has helped many of the trees bounce back.

Speaking of trees... mulch has been placed around many of the trees after the weeds were sprayed this week.  The mulch helps maintain moisture and cooler temperatures for the tree roots and helps to prevent damage from mowers to base of tree from mowers and line trimmers.

Have a great round!
