No pain, no gain

Ladies' Day at the Club
With a little break in the action, the greens received there monthly venting procedure and biweekly topdressing yesterday to relieve compaction and smooth out the playing surface for the upcoming rounds of golf for the balance of August.

The timing was also right now after the Club Championships to aerify and overseed the weak areas on greens No. 14 and 17 with the break between major events.   They were core-aerated using 3/8" tines and then slit-seeded with bentgrass in two directions to promote recovery from turf damage this season. Also select areas on greens with thin spots on Nos. 3, 5, 7, 10, 12 and 18 were also slit-seeded to fill in the remaining voids.  With a couple weeks now before labour day and the Men's Invitational, the greens should be another notch better as they were for the Club Championships with the favourable weather that continues.  Some areas may be a little bumpy for a few days, but the long term gain will out due the short term pain with this necessary procedure.

Turf crew lays sod on widened walk-off area left of No. 15 green today
The Ladies' Day went on today as scheduled with another great day of weather.  Sod was delivered this morning to finish the area left of No. 15 green walk-off area which was brush-cut, graded and topsoiled for improved playability.  The driving range was closed from 9:30 to 1pm for it's weekly maintenance.

Drainage is being installed in the ditch just before the road on No. 13 fairway.  This will help with playability with those come up short on this hole.
