On The Rebound

Canada is under the cool season grass section.

During the summer months, turf growth slows down and the plant goes into a slight summer dormancy. This is a key survival tool for the turf plant during the hot summer months. In the last few weeks, large amounts of seeding and sodding have been done. This is because optimal growing conditions are upon us. The fall growing period is much smaller then the spring growing period but it is a growing period none the less. Seeding and sodding during these times are when you get the best results, thus our reasoning for doing so just as the rebound is about to occur.

As for golf, today is shaping up to be a great day for it! With a solid high of 25 and light winds out of the southwest, these conditions should make for an excellent round. The UV index will be high, with a reading of 6, so don't forget your sunscreen!

This morning on the course, it was the regular weekend routine. The greens were mowed but we held off with the clean up pass to relieve stress on the edges of the green. Also, the pins were changed, blocks were moved, garbage was changed and the bunkers raked.

Recently, a few of our staff in the greens department have noticed that fairway divot mix is being used on some tees. Remember that the type of seed in the fairway divot mix is different then what is in the tee divot mix we use. Please keep the divot mix on your carts in the fairways.

Enjoy the beautiful weather and have a great round!
