Drainage now completed on No. 13 before the road |
August has been a dry month. It was August 1st the last day we had 25mm (1 inch) of natural rainfall. In fact, in July we received three times the amount of rain! Now three weeks since a good rain, the course is showing signs of drought stress, especially in the compacted areas where cart/equipment/foot traffic is concentrated. It tried to rain yesterday, the lightning warning system went off, but no rain actually fell over the course! Some areas around us got hit, but nothing here! With no rain in the forecast till Monday, we'll keep hammering out the water.
While on the topic of water, on the weekend we will be turning on sprinklers at times on select greens throughout the day between groups to help maintain the moisture for seed germination. Greens No's 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 14, 17 and 18 were slit-seeded this week on Tuesday, so we want to ensure the new seedlings establish and fill in the voids on the remaining weak damaged areas. We appreciate your patience in this necessary process.

Irrigation radio control used this weekend to keep seed moist on greens |
The dry weather was perfect for us to complete the required cultural practices this week with the 'break in the action' after the Club Championships as we prepare for the next round of big events. The greens venting, topdressing, overseeding, the tee and fairway topdressing will all help bring the conditions up a notch in the coming weeks!
The greens were sprayed with
Aliette Signature and
Daconil Ultrex fungicide today to prevent anthracnose and dollar spot disease.
We hope you enjoy the weekend and have fun participating in The Great Gatsby!
