Another Aeration in the Books

Another greens aeration is officially in the books. All 18 greens, 2 practice greens, 2 nurseries and all approaches were aerated Monday and Tuesday. Despite a small batch of rain Sunday evening, plenty of cores were able to be pulled. Using 1/2" tines at a 2" spacing, this was no small aeration. We took full advantage of the cool weather and went fairly aggressive. After the cores were pulled, multiple loads of sand were applied to fill these holes. Topping these holes up with sand replaces the decaying matter we have just removed. This, over time, will reduce compaction and help create a better growing environment for the stressful summer to come.

The tees were also given a little TLC this Wednesday with an aggressive verti-cut. This is a practice used to dethatch and also create a better growing environment. Thatch can act like a sponge and hold onto water and be a great host for over wintering spores that can produce very unfavourable diseases. Sand was also applied after this practice to firm up the playing surface.

Yesterday at the course, we received a large amount of rain. When the day was done for our crew at 2 o'clock,  we had received 15mm and it was still coming down fairly hard. Due to this, carts were made unavailable throughout the entire course. A decision will be made Saturday morning whether carts will be allowed on both 9's. Please check with the proshop for the latest updates regarding carts.

A saturated 13 green yesterday afternoon.
Todays weather will be much better! With highs reaching 23 degrees and the clouds giving away to beautiful blue sky, it sounds like it's going to shape up to a perfect golf day. Due to the moist conditions and humidity, the bugs are a little bothersome on the course. Don't forget your bug spray before heading out onto the course!

Enjoy the day and have a great round!
