Cultural Practices Continue This Week

More important turf health practices are being done this upcoming week. Aeration of the greens and approaches will be done Monday and Tuesday. This is a very important practice that will help ready the greens for the upcoming heat of the summer and improve overall plant health. The removal of decaying matter and introduction of new sand to the greens cavity and canopy encourages new plant growth, better nutrient retention, more consistent water movement, improves root growth and relieves compaction. These turf health benefits ultimately result in a better playing surface.

Having said all that, here is another look at everyone's favorite aeration diagram.

The tees will also receive some much needed TLC this week as well. We will be verti-cutting them on Wednesday to remove thatch. No cores will be pulled during this process but sand will be applied. Sand helps with thatch management and is an important part in maintaining a firm playing surface.

The front 9 will be closed Monday for the aeration of those greens and approaches. Tuesday, the same thing will take place but on the back nine. Wednesdays verti-cut on tees will not result in either of the 9's being shut down.

We thank you for your patience through these very important cultural practices. Short term pain for long term gain is a great way to look at the situation.

The weather for today is a little bit of a mixed bag. If you're golfing this morning, you will catch some sun! For those of you golfing this afternoon, clouds are expected to roll in and bring rain for this evening. The high for today is suppose to reach 21 degrees with a high UV index.

This morning on the course; greens will be mowed, pins and blocks will be rotated and the bunkers will be raked.

Enjoy the day and have a great round!
