Starting to Close-In On Completion of No. 10 Bunker Work

Doug Carrick painting final 'sand lines' where bunker boards will be installed

After a couple of weeks, the new bunker work on hole No. 10 is nearing the final stages of completion.   The first stage of construction involved rough shaping the new bunkers followed by modifications to the irrigation and the installation of the drainage.  The rolls of clay bentofix bunker liner named "Terrabunker" was then installed that help prevent the contamination of the new "Elite" bunker sand once installed.  Doug Carrick was up to the course on Wednesday (pictured above) to paint the final sand lines where the bunker boards will be installed.

The topsoil can now be placed around the perimeters of the bunker boards and the sod installed.  Hopefully if all goes well with the weather, a good portion of this work will get completed by the end of next week.

The new fairway bunkers on No. 5 at the bend of the left side of the fairway are getting rough shaped.  The old bunkers down in the second landing area are getting removed and the material is getting relocated for fill for the new bunkers, while leaving enough earth to shape some subtle mounds in their place.

As far as in-house bunker work, the sand was replaced on No. 9 bunkers before last weekend.  The work continues this coming week to fix the bunkers under repair right of No. 8 fairway.  The old liner on those bunkers had made its way to the surface and was therefore removed.  The soil underneath was quite rocky so a clay liner from material on the property is being installed to create a physical barrier before it's packed, drained and new sand installed.

On another note with the onset of the warmer, instant summer weather this week, and the threat of frost over with, it's now safe for the start of planting the Club's annual flower beds.  It's looking like another great display of colour for this season!

Yesterday the Club-wide training was held down at the Clubhouse to train staff on health and safety and environmental practices.  Later in the afternoon, the staff ventured out for 9 holes of golf followed by dinner down at the Clubhouse.  It was a good day to get the staff together to get orientated and working together as a team.
