New bunkers on No. 7 completed last fall |
After a prolonged winter and cool spring temperatures the course opened one week later on May 11th (back 9 only) for the Mother's Day weekend. The front 9 opened last Friday for the long weekend and this week things are finally starting to jump with the arrival of warmer nights in the forecast.
Prior to opening, the native soil greens (1, 2, 4, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and chipping green) were "drill and filled" with 3/4" drill bits penetrating down 10" and depositing sand in the columns for better drainage, rooting and firmness. This will be the 3rd time this process has been completed, and has led to dramatic improvement in greens consistency from one green to another, between the new and old greens, through more consistent moisture levels.
The course has overwintered well despite the very late snow cover into the latter part of April. Some northerly facing turf areas have been still slow to respond and rebound with the cooler weather and cold soil temperatures and cold lake irrigation water. No. 18 fairway was the hardest hit with the heavy snow mould pressure. This week the fairway was slit-seeded to aid in recovery. More slit-seeding will continue next week in isolated damaged areas on other fairways.

Now that the half-load trucking restrictions have be lifted this week on May 22nd, the projects slated to be completed for this summer (before July long weekend) will kick in gear.
Aside from replacing the bunker sand in the old bunkers (before July), the priority of improvements will be scheduled as follows:
- Relevel upper 6 tee and repave cartpath from No. 5 green (open for summer season)
- Golf Course paving projects (Completion before the middle of June)
- Relevel No. 9 tee (Open for summer season)
- Relevel No. 12 tee (Open for summer season)
- Construct new forward tee on No. 11 (Completion before July long weekend)
- Construct new forward tee on No. 15 (Completion before July long weekend)
- Construct new forward tee on No. 18 (Completion before July long weekend)
- Curbing along No. 2 tee and No. 3 tee (Before July if possible)
Thanks for your patience with us completing these exciting new projects for this season's prime golf season.
Enjoy the great spring conditions!
